BBMS Lite is built for hospital blood storage centres and small blood banks. It receives units from your mother blood centre, groups and crossmatches patients, issues bags with scan checks, verifies at the bedside, bills the patient or the HIS, and keeps your registers ready for inspection.

What does the storage centre team do in BBMS?

    Registration, eligibility questions, haemoglobin and vitals, deferral rules

    HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and malaria, verified by a second person

What stops a wrong issue?

  • Expired bagsrefused at receipt, at issue and at the bedside
  • A group that disagrees with itselfforward and reverse grouping must match, or the sample is rejected
  • Issue without a valid sampleno verified group on a sample under 72 hours old, no issue
  • The wrong blood for the patientonly ABO and Rh compatible units are offered, plasma and platelets by their own rules
  • A bag reserved for someone elseeach scan is checked against the reservation and the crossmatch
  • The wrong patient at the bedsidewristband and bag must match before transfusion starts
  • Checking your own workgrouping, crossmatch and TTI results need a second person
  • Releasing an untested unitall five markers must be non-reactive and verified

What about billing?

BBMS raises invoices from your rate list, applies schemes such as government health schemes, and takes payments. When the hospital runs Caresoft HIS or another HIS, charges can go to the patient's HIS bill instead.

Questions people ask

Do we need a server?
No. Lite runs in the cloud and needs only a browser and a barcode scanner. An on-premise installation is also available.
Can nurses use it at the bedside?
Yes. The bedside check works on any phone or tablet browser with a camera or scanner.
